ABOVE: This pope is incredible. One cannot helped to be touched by his leadership, he comes from a long line of popes who are leading reconciliation efforts in a right way. As philosophers we owe it to ourselves not to label or package characterizations of thought, but to dig deep into the thought. My hopes for this page will be to become aware of the Church's relationship with indigenous communities. It is a relationship central to the evangelical mandates given by Jesus in Matthew 20:6.
CATHOLICS AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' COMING TOGETHER
Francisco de Vitoria OP (1485-1546) replaced the Sentences of Peter Lombard with the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas as the text for theological studies at Salamanca in Spain. De Vitorio gave a series of talks relating the theology of Thomas to current issues and he wrote a stinging rebuke of the Spanish treatment of indigenous people in the New World. That text still exists
Bartolome de las Casas OP.
